Vector insects are indispensable for the transmission and pathogenicity of persistent-propagative plant viruses. We have shown previously that planthopper-derived Rice stripe virus (RSV) induced a typical yellow stripe symptom in rice leaves whereas rice-derived RSV could only cause chlorosis, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. To explore how RSV acquires phytopathogenicity through vector insect, we compared the genome and population diversity of RSVs in the vector insect and plant host.
