Privately-Owned English Urban Manuscripts, 1300-1476 (Urban Manuscript Project)

This database contains descriptions of over 300 manuscripts deposited in libraries, dating from the late medieval period, roughly 1300-1500. Each manuscript and its contents is fully described. Full information has been given about the owners of each manuscript (names, gender, occupation) and the producers of each manuscript. Manuscripts have only been included in the dataset if they fulfil one of three 'urban' criteria: the manuscript must either have been owned or produced in an urban environment or must contain material relating to towns (for example, list of streets in Bristol, lists of the names of mayors and sheriffs and chronicles relating specifically to London).
The database was created by researchers at the University of York and funded by a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Board.
