Shoiligoto Anudhaban : Prasanga Shrirajmala Kabya

Rajmala, the celebrated historical chronicle of the Tripura dynasty, occupies a significant place in medieval Bengali literature. Composed in verse (First Lahar) during the fifteenth century, it chronicles the reigns of the kings of the erstwhile kingdom of Tripura while preserving valuable historical, cultural, social, and political information about the region. Owing to its rich historical content, Rajmala has long attracted the attention of historians and literary scholars alike. This paper aims to examine the stylistic features of Rajmala and demonstrate how its language and poetic expression reflect the literary conventions of the medieval period. Particular emphasis is placed on stylistic devices such as alliteration, assonance, consonance, repetition, and other poetic techniques that contribute to the aesthetic quality of the text. By analysing selected verses, the study highlights the distinctive stylistic characteristics of Rajmala and establishes its importance as both a historical document and a remarkable literary work of medieval Bengal.
