Daily and Monthly Precipitation Data in Iraq

We present a dataset of monthly precipitation records from four meteorological stations across Iraq, covering the period from January 1938 to December 2023 (except between January 2003 and December 2004 because of the Iraqi War). These stations were strategically selected to represent the diverse geographical regions of the country: Mosul, located in the mountainous region in northern Iraq, Rutba, representing the arid western desert, Baghdad, situated in the central plains, and Basrah in the desertic hot region to the southeast, adjacent to the Persian Gulf.

Additionally, we incorporate daily precipitation records from the Baghdad meteorological station, spanning a 19-year period from January 1, 2005, to December 31, 2023. This station is situated in the central plains of Iraq.

All four meteorological stations are operated by the Iraqi Meteorological and Seismology Organization. The authors wish to thank this organization for providing the datasets.
