Duplicate Business Listings: Detection and Remediation Methods for Local Search Records (2026)
收藏资源简介:
Duplicate business listings are the most common defect in local search records: the same business appears two or more times across a directory or maps platform, usually with divergent name, address or phone (NAP) data. Duplicates split ranking and review signals between records and give search engines and AI assistants conflicting evidence about a single entity. This report documents where duplicates originate (aggregator imports, prior agency submissions, staff-created records, rebrands and relocations), how to detect them across platforms, and the remediation path for each case: merge, suppress, claim or update in place. It includes the phone-first matching approach we use in production, because the phone number is the field least likely to be creatively reformatted, and a section on provider listings in healthcare, where a practice record and its individual practitioner records diverge at the seam between them.
