This work describes how an immune cell population, that is very sensitive to the inflammtory signals produced during the infection and ageing process, is generated, maintained and functions through the life course. We found that these immune cells, called TVM cells, react to select infections and inflammatory signals and acquire improvement in function which can be of use in designing therapeutic strategies for cancer and persistent infections.
