Dataset for: A Cognitive–Affective Pathway from Socially Prescribed Perfectionism to Athlete Burnout: The Roles of Fear of Failure and Competitive State Anxiety in Chinese Athletes

This repository contains the anonymized dataset used in the study entitled “A Cognitive–Affective Pathway from Socially Prescribed Perfectionism to Athlete Burnout: The Roles of Fear of Failure and Competitive State Anxiety in Chinese Athletes.” Data were collected through an online survey of Chinese competitive athletes from provincial and municipal training systems across multiple sports between November 1 and November 30, 2025. After data screening and quality control, the final sample consisted of 896 athletes. The dataset includes variables assessing socially prescribed perfectionism, fear of failure, competitive state anxiety, athlete burnout, and demographic characteristics such as gender, age, sport type, competitive level, and years of training. Data screening procedures involved the exclusion of invalid responses based on completion time, patterned responding, attention-check failure, and excessive missing data. No personally identifiable information is included. This dataset is shared to support research transparency, reproducibility, and secondary analysis in sport psychology.
