Key Competences: a New Educational Philosophy and Policy

Key competences for lifelong learning, developed throughout the education process, constitute a newphilosophy and policy of education, which is affirmed in modern and contemporary society, with an impact at all levels of education and with a specific emphasis on high school education during adolescence, the age at which the development of self-awareness is finalized. The new philosophy and policy of education based on key competences allow the development of an open pedagogical model with special applications in high school education. Its operational structure is viable at the level of institutional relationships between the general and strategic goal, specific objectives, contents that support the development of the eight key competences, teac hing strategies, and the r esulting superior product.
