Digital Archive from Trial Trenching between Curborough and Armitage, Lichfield, Staffordshire, 2019 (HS2 Phase One)

This collection comprises images, site records, text, spreadsheets, and GIS data from an archaeological trial trenching between Curborough and Armitage, Lichfield, Staffordshire. This work was undertaken by Connect Archaeology between April and October 2019 as part of High Speed 2 Phase 1. In the western end of Area 2, there were the remains of ditches possibly related to features of an Iron Age date, although no dating evidence was recovered. In Area 3, the remains of a ring ditch at the site of a known earthwork denoted as 'King's Standing' on historic mapping were recorded. No artefactual evidence was recovered from the excavation of the feature, bar a small fragment of undiagnostic pottery recovered from environmental sampling of the ditch.
