Monitoring Priority Biocides 2017: Disinfectant active ingredients

The objective of this study was to review selected biocidal products containing disinfecting active substances with regard to compliance with chemical and biocidal product labelling requirements and analytical control of the active substances indicated on the label. Quaternary ammonium compounds and glutaral and the prohibited substances triclosan and triclocarban have been studied on active substance(s). Out of 32 products, five products had deviations from the declared active substance content. For three products the active substance content could not be checked due to poor labelling. Triclosan and triclocarban were not detectable in any of the disinfectants examined. After completion of the EU approval procedure for quaternary ammonium compounds and established identity of the active substances, re-analysis is useful.
