Microbial Diversity of Chernozems

The study addressed the relationships between tillage and various characteristics of soil microbiota in the case of Chernozem soils located in Eastern Europe. More specifically, we investigated how tillage impacted the diversity and composition of soil prokaryotes and fungi, an issue that is yet unresolved at both global and local level.The relevance of our study should be assessed in relation to the role that microorganisms play in maintaining soil quality and performing essential ecosystem functions such as long-term sequestration of carbon.
