Number of Workers Needed on Farms in 1942

Excerpts: This report contains estimates of the number of farm workers that will be needed in each State during each month of 1942 if the January agricultural production goals are approximately realized. They are revisions of preliminary estimates made in March 1942 for very limited distribution. The first step in making the estimate was to determine for each State the number of man days used in farm operations during each month of 1941, and to convert days of work into number of farm workers. The second step was to estimate the number of additional days of farm work that would be required during each month of 1942 to produce the additional quantities of commodities called for by the January production goals, and then to convert the additional days of work into additional numbers of farm workers. The third step was to adjust downward the total number of workers estimated for 1942 in some States where the number of workers on farms in 1941 appeared to be larger than was necessary to do the farm work.
