Nicaragua (2012): Encuesta CAP Diabetes Gestacional entre Proveedores Privados, Ronda 1

This survey measured health care providers' knowledge, attitudes and practices with regards to gestational diabetes (GDM) in four Social Security Institute hospitals in Managua, Nicaragua. In May 2013, PSI/PASMO surveyed a total of 88 providers (47 physicians, 28 nurses, 4 nutritionists, and 9 lab technicians) in Bautista Hospital, SUMEDICO Hospital, Carlos Roberto Huembes Hospital and Nuevo Hospital Monte Espana hospital. Given that each type of provider plays a different role in the diagnosis and management of GDM, PSI/PASMO designed four separate questionnaires, one for each provider profile: physician, nurse, nutritionist, or lab technician. This survey is one of the initial activities of PSI/PASMO's program "Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in Nicaragua: Improving Screening, Diagnosis and Management," which is funded by the World Diabetes Foundation and Novo Nordisk and will be implemented in the hospitals where the survey was conducted. It establishes the baseline for providers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices. At the end of the project, PSI/PASMO will conduct this same survey in the same hospitals to be able to measure change over time.
