ChinaUV++: a national map for China's urban villages with rooftops and population derived from VHR satellite imagery in 2020

This study provides a national-scale, open-access map of urban villages (UVs) covering a total of 358 cities and 1664 counties in China for 2020 (i.e., ChinaUV), through a deep semantic segmentation model derived from VHR satellite images. Furthermore, we additionally provided a 0.5 m resolution UVs' building rooftop data (i.e., ChinaUV-Roof) and a 100 m resolution UVs' population data (i.e., ChinaUV-Pop), offering a series of data products that describe the spatial distribution, building rooftops and population statistics of all UVs in each city and county of China for the first time. Here we name the above three datasets as ChinaUV++. Among them, ChinaUV and ChinaUV-Roof are provided in .shp vector format, while ChinaUV-Pop is a raster dataset with a spatial resolution of 100 m and stored in .tif format. Moreover, ChinaUV++ consists of a total of 248k UV polygons together with 38.9 million building footprints, indicating that about 100 million people resided in China's urban villages in 2020 from 358 cities and 1664 counties. Above all, this research makes the first attempt to reveal the detailed spatial patterns of all UVs and their populations for every city and county across China.
