Role of Photosynthetic Bacteria in Freshwater Wetland Geochemical Cycles

Photosynthetic bacteria within soil communities are largely unconsidered in the global carbon cycle. Here, we aim to identify the extent to which photosynthetic purple non-sulfur bacteria present in wetland soils interact with and influence geochemical cycles, such as the carbon cycle. This is due to the role wetlands play as a carbon sink. We hope to link CO2 fixation by anoxic phototrophs to global carbon cycle impact.
