Reproduction Rebellion: Reconfiguring Gametogenesis

This thesis examines four speculative futures that have emerged in relation to in vitro gametogenesis (IVG) to theorise how deviant populations are managed across multiple scales, from the single cell to the intimate and everyday, and up to the state and its regulatory systems. Through the method of figuration, this thesis, then, crafts a counternarrative to the neoliberal logic that confines reproduction within the propertied and private nuclear family, and as utility to capital. In conversation with queer of colour critique and Black and Marxist feminisms, the political possibilities that emerge from the refusal of IVG’s dominant futures are ultimately reconfigured as a praxis of solidarity with long-standing feminist struggles of liberation from the crisis that is social reproduction.
