资源简介:
Methanotrophs play a vital role in reducing methane emissions in various environments, including cold regions. However, little is known about how these bacteria respond to higher temperatures than their natural habitat. In this study, we collected soil samples from glacier forelands, incubated them at 35 degree with different soil water conditions, and measured methane concentrations over time. We used DNA stable isotope probing and sequencing to identify the active methanotroph population. Our results showed that methanotrophs in glacier foreland soil can actively oxidize methane at 35 degree, and their activity is influenced by soil water content. Methylocystis, a type II methanotroph, was dominant at high temperatures, indicating its adaptability to cold habitats. These findings have implications for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in warming Arctic and glacial environments.
