Retrospective investigation of recurrent and persistent UTI in dogs using Whole genome sequencing of urinary E. coli isolated from individual dogs longitudinally

Isolates arise from a retrospective, longitudinal investigation of dogs with recurrent Escherichia coli Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Urine samples were collected between 2008 and 2016 in Victoria, Australia. The data arising from this study suggest that despite antimicrobial therapy, infecting E. coli strains persist in an individual over prolonged periods of time and that E. coli strains are either multi-drug resistant (MDR) isolates or contain a greater repertoire of extra intestinal virulence factors genes.
