This thesis presents the development of a three-dimensional model of the human endometrium ‘in-a-dish’. This model is engineered using gelatin-based hydrogels and human endometrial cells isolated from patient biopsies. Gel composition is optimised to support the viability and function of the two main endometrial cell types. 3D printing is used to incorporate both cell types into a representative model that mimics key aspects of the endometrial tissues structure and function. This physiologically relevant model addresses the need for accurate systems to study endometrial dysfunction, embryo implantation failure, and miscarriage, and serves as a platform for investigating potential new treatments.
