* Data sub-set of full Local Plan Information * Local Plan Review: Peak District National Park The Local Plan is the statutory development plan for the Peak District National Park. It sets out how the National Park Authority will plan for and manage development, including minerals development, in the period up to 2045. It will be used to guide day-to-day decisions on planning applications and other proposals for development. The Local Plan presents a single set of planning policies for the whole of the National Park and replaces the Core Strategy (2011) and Development Management Policies Document (2019.) The aim of the Local Plan is to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development. It will do this by guiding the type and location of new development to deliver long-term benefits for the community, the economy and the environment. The Local Plan is written within the context of the two statutory purposes of National Parks. These are: to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Park, and to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the Park by the public. The National Park Authority also has a statutory duty, in furthering these purposes, to seek to foster the economic and social well-being of communities within the area. The preparation of the Local Plan is a statutory responsibility of the National Park Authority. It must conform with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).1 The NPPF is the main statement of Government planning policy in England. It provides a framework for the Local Plan's aims and policies taking into account local circumstances, needs, character and opportunity. It says that landscape and scenic beauty in national parks have the highest status of protection, that the scale and extent of development should be limited and 'great weight' should be given to conserving and enhancing wildlife and cultural heritage. Major development should not take place unless there are exceptional circumstances and it is in the public interest.
