Genomic insights into Leptospira isolate from India

Leptospirosis, a neglected zoonotic disease caused by Leptospira spp., affects both animals and humans worldwide. Over the last few decades, numerous studies have been conducted to isolate and characterize Leptospira strains from various animal species, often from kidney or urine samples. However, to gain a precise understanding of the genetic and molecular functions of Leptospira spp., comprehensive and well-annotated genomic information is crucial. In this study, we isolated Leptospira spp. from cattle urine using culture, confirmed by PCR and subsequently sequenced the whole genome. The whole-genome shotgun sequencing of the isolate provided valuable insights into the genomic composition and potential functional genes of this pathogen.
