Influence of Cultural Capital on the College Preparation Process on English as a Second Language Dataset

This study explores the college preparation process of students for whom English is a second language. More specifically, it looks at how an individual's level of valuable cultural capital and habitus affects this preparation process. Data for this study was taken from ten semi-structured interviews conducted with students, for whom English is a second language, at a well-known, liberal arts institution located in central New York. Questions asked were tailored towards their experience with the SATs, and with their college counselor, and what kinds of courses they took in high school. Bourdieu's theories of cultural capital and habitus were used to analyze the findings.
