This study aimed to enhance lutein production from Acutodesmus sp. HLGY by developing a biotechnological approach for simultaneous biomass and lutein production through the induction of a quorum sensing molecule, N-hexanoyl-DL-homoserine lactone (C6-HSL). Transcriptome analysis showed that the carbon sequestration and lutein biosynthesis associated genes, which were in accordance with the results of qRT-PCR. This study presents a promising biotechnological method for simultaneous production of microalgae biomass and lutein, shedding light on the biological roles of C6-HSL.
