Identification and Management of Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (HvKP) in Nebraska

HvKP is a globally present pathogen and clinicians everywhere should be aware of the clinical manifestations as currently there is no routine lab test to identify hvKP. HvKp was identified in the patients described using the whole genome sequencing to identify five virulence plasmid-linked genes. Identification of hvKP can improve clinical decision making and informed the care of the two patients described.
