Periodontal therapy aims to eliminate the disease by modification of the subgingival ecosystem. Objective: to determine the efficacy of 3 periodontal treatments used in the treatment of chronic periodontitis (CP) and associate relevant changes of sub-gingival microbial flora to clinical changes following periodontal surgery. Materials and Methods: a total of 87 patients, ≥30 years of age with moderate to severe CP. Subgingival plaque samples were taken at baseline and 3months. DNA was extracted and PCR amplified using 16S rRNA gene V5-V7 primer, sequenced (MiSeq, Illumina) and analysed using FLASH and MacQIIME. Initial results showed a shift in the predominant genera.
