VPRS 21035 Registers of Applications for Wards of Court

This series comprises registers recording the details of applications for Wards of Court at the Supreme Court of Victoria (VA 2549). The registers record the application number, name of ward, date of filing of motion, date of order, name of applicant and any remarks. Some fields in the registers are not complete. The Supreme Court Act 1958 contains provisions to make infants Wards of Court. A Ward of Court is a mechanism to determine actions for the welfare of an infant via an order made by the court for the period specified in the order. Examples of Ward of Court applications include but are not limited to determining custody of infants in de facto relationships, managing an infant’s finances, or other matters related to the interests of the infant. Wards of Court applications are to be found in VPRS 12024 Companies & Miscellaneous Applications Files and VPRS 13032 Commercial and Civil Files.
