"This communication presents a wideband, high-gain circularly polarized (CP) magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology, with performance enhanced by a metasurface array. The antenna element comprises two pairs of rotationally symmetric metal patches positioned on both sides of an open slot. These patches, together with the slot, simultaneously excite two orthogonal electric-field components. A diamond-shaped metasurface array is embedded within the substrate to improve the amplitude and phase balance between these orthogonal components, thereby broadening the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and increasing the gain performance. The operating mechanism of the metasurface in enabling CP radiation is explained using a circuit model. Utilizing this element, a 2 \u00d7 2 subarray fed by a SIW-based sequential rotate feeding technique (SRFT) is designed to intensify the bandwidth and gain. For further gain enhancement, a 4 \u00d7 4 ME-dipole CP antenna array is implemented using low-cost printed circuit board (PCB) technology. Measurement results demonstrate a \u201310-dB impedance bandwidth of 42.6%, a 3-dB AR bandwidth of 48.1%, and a peak gain of 16.68 dBi. Thanks to its favorable performance, the proposed antenna array is a promising candidate for wideband millimeter-wave (mmW) wireless communication systems."
