Sequencing of the chloroplast genome of Carissa spinarum

We generated whole-genome shotgun sequencing data to de novo assemble the complete chloroplast genome of Carissa spinarum and performed its comprehensive characterization and comparative analysis. The study examined various genomic features, including gene content, gene arrangement, codon usage bias, amino acid frequency, and simple sequence repeats (SSRs). Additionally, the assembled chloroplast genome was used to identify polymorphic loci that may serve as potential molecular markers. Finally, a phylogenetic analysis was conducted to infer the evolutionary placement of Carissa spinarum within the subfamily Rauvolfioideae, in comparison with other representative species.
