The study set up lab- and pilot-scale HARs for advanced denitrification of municipal secondary effluent, and for the first time, implemented this system in 10000 m3/d full-scale plant. Seeded sludge and activated sludge samples from all reactors under stable operation and when abnormal performance occurred were collected.
