MERINO 2 Trial - Chromosomal AmpC-producing Enterobacteriaceae Raw sequence reads

AmpC beta-lactamase expression among certain bacteria renders them resistant to a wide range of beta-lactam antibiotics. Carbapenems are recommended treatment for serious infections; although use has been associated with rising carbapenem-resistance. Piperacillin-tazobactam may be a suitable alternative to treat AmpC-producers.We enrolled hospitalised adult patients with bloodstream infection due to chromosomal AmpC-producers in a multicenter randomized controlled trial. Patients were assigned in a 1 to 1 ratio to receive piperacillin-tazobactam 4.5 g every 6 hours or meropenem 1 g every 8 hours. The primary efficacy outcome was a composite of death, clinical failure, microbiological failure and microbiological relapse at 30 days. An in-depth microbiological analysis was performed
