sleep-edf (European Data Format, EDF): a simple and flexible format for exchanging and storing multi-channel biological and physical signals. The Version 2 database contains 197 full-night polysomnographic sleep recordings, including EEG, EOG, chin EMG, and event markers. Some recordings also incorporate respiratory and body temperature signals. Trained technicians manually scored the corresponding sleep polysomnograms (sleep patterns) in accordance with the Rechtschaffen & Kales manual. While the labeling of this dataset requires professional practitioners, we gained valuable insights during our research on the AASM scoring manual. In the future, we can attempt to establish a relatively reliable ground truth using quantitative standards, which can be used for supervised classification tasks. Files with the suffix *PSG.edf contain full-night polysomnographic recordings including EEG (from Fpz-Cz and Pz-Oz electrode positions), horizontal EOG, mandibular EMG, and event markers. SC* PSG.edf type files (please refer to 'sleep cassette studies') usually also include oro-nasal respiratory signals and rectal body temperature. *Hypnogram.edf files contain annotations of sleep stages corresponding to the PSG recordings. These sleep patterns (hypnograms) include sleep stages W, R, 1, 2, 3, 4, M (time of body movement), and ? (unscored). All hypnograms were manually scored by trained technicians, distinguished by the 8th character in the hypnogram filename.
