The corn leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis) is an important vector of maize rayado fino virus (MRFV), a +ssRNA marafivirus which it transmits in a persistent propagative manner. The interaction of D. maidis with MRFV, including infection of the insect and subsequent transmission capability to new plants, are not well understood at the molecular level. The D. maidis transcriptome and transcriptional response to MRFV allowed examination of the leafhopper-virus interaction, especially the insect immune response signaling pathways and RNAi which may be associated with virus infection of the leafhopper and subsequent transmission.
