Subject Index of the Resolutions of the Board of Curators of Leiden University 1574-1815

This index was originally created as a note card system. It was compiled during the research phase for the PhD thesis: Sluijter, Ronald. 2004. 'Tot ciraet, vermeerderinge ende heerlyckmaeckinge der universiteyt'. Bestuur, instellingen, personeel en financiën van de Leidse universiteit 1572-1812. Hilversum : Verloren.

The index is not a complete index on the resolutions of the board of Curators of Leiden University. It contains terms which were of importance for the research subject: governance, institutes, finances, and staff. These subjects have been largely neglected in the source edition by Molhuysen, P.C. 1913-1924. Bronnen tot de geschiedenis der Leidsche universiteit 1574-1811. 's-Gravenhage : Martinus Nijhoff. Molhuysen was mostly interested in the educational side of the university's history. Thus, combining this index with Molhuysen's edition provides a fairly complete picture of the resolutions of the board of Curators.

The index also contains a relatively small number of references to other archives and literature, in cases were they proved useful for the research subject. This mainly concerns the source edition by Molhuysen. The references are listed below. 

Explanation of the records of the index:

Onderwerp: the subject of the resolution.

Beschrijving: a summary of the resolution. In many cases text between rounded brackets refers to other data on which the same subject was treated in the resolutions.

Datum: the date of the resolution.
