The Bar‐tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica baueri) is an extreme long‐distance migratory bird that spends the austral summerin Australasia before migrating, via Asia, to breeding grounds in Alaska. After breeding in Alaska godwits migrate south to over-winter in Australasia,crossing the entire Pacific Ocean in a single flight. As part of an international effort to understand the role of genetic variation in inter‐individualvariation in godwit migratory departure dates we haveassembled and annotated the genome of the Bar‐tailedGodwit.
