In October 2006, the Metop-A satellite launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) carried the next-generation Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2) sensor. This sensor can provide near-real-time data on the atmospheric vertical column density of NO2 across the global scale, with a spatial resolution of 0.25° × 0.25°.
