Rapid precipitation of aragonite was observed in a Kentucky stream impacted by alkaline mine drainage from coal mine spoils. Aragonite precipitate was collected on tiles suspended in the stream, from which DNA was extracted to assess potential biological involvement. 16S amplicon sequencing data was collected to characterize the microbial community associated with the aragonite tiles.
