Photosynthetic pigment data series (2003-2020) from the LTER-MC site (LTER_EU_IT_061, Gulf of Naples, Mediterranean Sea)

This dataset contains 808 HPLC-based measurements of photosynthetic pigments from surface seawater samples collected at the LTER-MC (Long-Term Ecological Research–MareChiara) station in the Gulf of Naples between January 2003 and December 2020. Data are provided as a single Excel file ("LTER-MC_HPLC_2003–2020.xlsx"), where each row corresponds to an individual sampling event and each column reports the concentration of a specific pigment (mg m⁻³). The dataset includes chlorophyll a and the main accessory pigments used for phytoplankton chemotaxonomic analyses, including chlorophyll b, peridinin, fucoxanthin, 19′-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin, 19′-butanoyloxyfucoxanthin, alloxanthin, zeaxanthin, and violaxanthin. Parameter names follow the P01-BODC Parameter Usage Vocabulary to ensure consistency with international standards. The dataset is intended to support studies on phytoplankton community composition, seasonal and interannual variability, and long-term ecological changes in the Gulf of Naples.
