The emergence of extensively drug-resistant Shigella sonnei in Vietnam

Ciprofloxacin-resistant Shigella sonnei has emerged as an important global health issue since the last decade. In this study we provide unprecedented insights into the local evolution and development of extensive drug resistance in this clone since it enters into Vietnam. Our study outlines the evolutionary trajectories of multiple XDR clones and shed light on the reservoir of XDR plasmids.
