Starvation effect on the chemosensory transcriptome of Spodoptera littoralis larvae

Fourth instar larvae of a lab strain of Spodoptera littoralis were used in this study. Antennae and maxillary palps were dissected from ~300 larvae (collected from 3 different generations) 24h after food deprivation and from ~300 larvae (collected from the same 3 different generations) that were not food-deprived. Total RNAs were extracted for each sample using TRIzol® Reagent (Invitrogen, Carlsbad, CA, USA) and used as templates for cDNA synthesis and Illumina sequencing by GATC Biotech SARL(HiSeq2000, one channel for the two samples, single read).
