Gene database of Aeromonas hydrophila ATCC 7966

Present in both freshwater and brackish water, Aeronomas hydrophila is a human pathogen that is the causative agent for a variety of conditions such as gastroenteritis and septicaemia. The bacterium possesses a set of cell surface appendages that makes it particularly concerning as a pathogen. Chief amongst this is a Type II secretion system that enables the injection of aerolysin toxin into host cells. Notwithstanding this, A. hydrophila also possesses Type IV pilli useful for attachment to cells and extracellular proteases that can cause tissue damage. This work sought to provide some fundamental information of A. hydrophila ATCC 7966 by parsing the GenBank annotated genome file of the bacterium (GenBank accession number: NCBI Reference Sequence: NC_008570.1). Using an in-house MATLAB software, a gene database for the bacterium comprising gene identifier, gene function and gene sequence was built. Information presented in this dataset should find use in a variety of fundamental microbiological studies seeking to understand the pathogenesis mechanism of A. hydrophila through generating specific mutants via genome editing.
