Near-term forecast of Austrian greenhouse gas emissions for 2019 (Nowcast 2020).

The current EU MonMech Regulation (MMR — Monitoring Mechanism Regulation, 525/2013/EU) obliges Member States to submit preliminary estimates of greenhouse gas emissions for the reporting year X-1 (in this case for 2019) to the European Commission annually by 31 July. The near-term forecast of greenhouse gas emissions for 2019 was carried out using a simplified methodology and shows preliminary figures as well as the current trend for 2019. It is subject to uncertainties, so the results may differ from the Austrian Air Pollutant Inventory, which will be published in January 2021. According to preliminary figures, around 80.4 million tonnes of greenhouse gases were emitted in Austria in the year 2 019. Compared to 2018, this represents an increase of 1.8 % and 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
