Avifauna and electric lines

The increasing demand for electrical energy requires an increase in the number of electric lines and lines installed in the natural environment, which usually implies a high risk of electrocution and collision of the avifauna. At present this problem is one of the main causes of unnatural mortality most common in this group of vertebrates. In order to minimise the negative effects that these infrastructures have on birds, Royal Decree 1432/2008 of 29 August 2008 establishing measures for the protection of birds against collision and electrocution on high voltage overhead power lines was published. Within the framework of this rule, the Order of 6 May 2016 of the Minister for the Environment and Territorial Policy was approved, under which the priority areas of reproduction, feeding, dispersion and concentration of threatened bird species were defined and the protection zones for bird birds were published within the scope of the CAPV in which the measures established against collision and electrocution will be applied in Royal Decree 1432/2008. The RESOLUTION of June 18, 2018, of the Director of Natural Heritage and Climate Change, determines the overhead power lines of high voltage that do not comply with the technical requirements established in Articles 6 and 7 of Royal Decree 1432/2008
