Census of Selected Service Industries, 1972: Public Use Summary Tape

<p>This data collection contains summary statistics for selected service industry establishments. General statistics are grouped by type of business and include: number of establishments, receipts, and number of sole proprietorships. For businesses with payroll: number of establishments, receipts, payroll for 1972, payroll for first quarter of 1972, and number of paid employees. Data are also included for rank order by volume of receipts. Kind-of-business classifications in these files are in accordance with the industry classifications defined in the 1972 edition of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Manual. Note: regarding receipts; sales, occupancy, admissions, and other taxes collected from customers and forwarded to tax authorities were underreported in the 1972 census. Also, legal services reported gross receipts based on on billing, not what was received.</p>
