Electricity for vehicles is a joint innovation project (BIP) with DEFA as the project owner, and Energy Norway, Statoil, Toyota Norway as partners in the project. Electricity for vehicles is a future-oriented concept in Norway. Pure electric vehicles will be best suited as a niche product for small vehicles, on relatively short journeys. New future breakthroughs to battery may be necessary for a bigger market for EVs. In the period 2015-2025 will probably rechargeable hybrid vehicles become competitive and fuel cell cars could be more relevant than they are now.
