This study contains the experimental data generated for the study titled “Cultivation of Spirulina (Limnospira platensis) using low-cost media and its potential to address challenges posed by climate change in the semiarid regions of Southern Africa.” The research was conducted at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology.The data were collected to evaluate the productivity of Spirulina grown in fertilizer-based low-cost media, with the aim of assessing its suitability for sustainable biomass production in resource-limited and climate-vulnerable environments. Measurements include Spirulina biomass yield, protein content and pigment productivity (including phycocyanin and chlorophyll). All values represent the outcomes of laboratory cultivation experiments designed to determine the feasibility of replacing conventional commercial media with affordable fertilizer-based alternatives.The recorded measurements were used to generate the figures presented in the manuscript and support the analysis of growth performance and biochemical composition under low-cost media conditions.Files and variablesThe file included with data sets is; Results File_KMasisiThe file is provided in an uncompressed formatThe excel file contains the names of figures in the manuscript as sheet names.
