Soils as balancing bodies in the water balance 2021-2050 to 1971-2000 “climate protection” scenario (RCP2.6)

The map shows the change in the assessment of soils as balancing bodies in the water balance 2021-2050 compared to 1971-2000 under the “Climate Protection” scenario (RCP2.6). Basically, all unsealed floors are a balancing body in the water balance (AKWH). They absorb water and release it time-delayed. In addition, water is passed through it into deeper layers. The soils thus act as a temporary storage in the landscape water balance. The method summarises all the components, e.g. water conductivity and water storage capability, into an assessment scheme to assess the retention of water in the soil. Central is the assessment of retention performance and infiltration performance. The climate models are driven by the “climate protection” scenario (RCP2.6). This is a scenario of the IPCC, which means significant efforts in climate protection and low emissions. The results of all climate models are equally likely. Therefore, in addition to the mean, which shows a tendency, the upper (maximum) and lower (minimum) edge of the result bandwidth can be retrieved via the maptip.
