The Denominational Schools Board was established in 1848 and was responsible for the distribution of funds to denominational schools from an annual Parliamentary grant and a proportion of the Church and Schools Estates revenue.This series consists of the register of circulars issued by the Board. Initially a transcription of the circular was made in the volume with, from 1857, this practice changing to attaching a copy of the circular. Details regarding each circular were entered under the headings of Date, School, To Whom Sent and How Sent (by post or by a hand delivery).Contents of circulars include reports of the Board, Rules and Regulations, arrangements for teacher examinations and pro forma for the completion of reports by schools to the Board.
