Size of livestock on agricultural holdings: reference date 1 April and 1 December

This table shows the number of cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, ducks for slaughter and pigs on Dutch farms. The size of the herd shall be 1 April and 1 December. There may be a difference between the animal numbers in the Agricultural Counting Tables and this livestock table. As of 2018, the number of veal calves, beef pigs, chickens and turkeys in the Agricultural Count will be adjusted in case of temporary vacancy at the reference date. The Agricultural census is a structural survey, in which a temporary vacancy adjustment is important for the determination of the type of farm and the economic size of the holdings. For the livestock table, the size of the herds at the reference date is important, so the number of animals in this herd table is not adjusted in case of temporary vacancy. Data available from: 1 April 2018. Status of the figures: New figures on livestock are first published as ‘provisional’ and, when more and more complete data from the Agricultural Count is made available, adjusted from provisional to ‘final’. Changes as of 15 February 2024: The provisional figures of April 2023 have been updated and provisional figures for December 2023 have been added. When will there be new figures? The preliminary figures for April will be published in September. The preliminary figures for December will be published in February of the following year. The final figures for April will be published in May of the following year and the final December figures will be published in September of the following year.
