Cpod station

In the Baltic Sea, the BfN operates continuous year-round POD monitoring. In areas with low population densities, these record the locating sounds of porpoises using acoustic detection devices (PODs, POrpoise Detectors), which are permanently installed under the water surface. As part of this long-term data collection, the BfN POD operates measuring positions in the FFH protected areas and adjacent waters. The data obtained are examined with regard to the temporal and spatial occurrence of porpoises and their acoustic behaviour.
