Crossed cerebellar diaschisis (CCD) is hypoperfusion and hypometabolism in the contralateral cerebellar hemisphere caused by supratentorial lesion. We evaluated chronological change of cerebellar blood flow (CbBF) and gene expressions in cerebellum using a rat model of focal ischemic stroke. Overall design: Gene expression in rat cerebellar cortex was measured at 2 days after transient right middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO). Left (contralateral to the infarct) and right (ipsilateral to the infarct) cerebellar cortex of MCAO group and left cerebellar cortex of control group were extracted. To obtain sufficient mass of the experimental material, tissues from four rats in each group (MCAO or control) were combined into one sample.
